The great thing about cartoon characters is that they almost never age. This allows them to be relatable to countless generations and always have fun stories to tell. However, this doesn’t stop us from thinking about how would our favorite characters look when they grow up or become older.
Led by this curiosity, Massachusetts artist Isaiah Stephens decided to take some of the most popular cartoon characters of his childhood and turn them into grown-up versions. His series “All Grown Up” includes characters from shows like Pokemon, Fairly Odd Parents, Recess, Rugrats, and many others.
Stephens’ illustrations became a hit on social media but turned out to be a great experience for the artist himself. He revealed in a recent interview that doing the series was a lot of fun for him as it didn’t take much for him to complete individual pieces and it allowed him to look back at the cartoon shows he enjoyed as a child.
“These pieces were always meant to be fun, and a love letter to these shows, movies, and TV shows that I hold so close to my heart,” he told Bored Panda.
Stephens has paused the series recently to dedicate himself to new projects, but luckily there are plenty of “All Grown Up” illustrations to enjoy on his Instagram profile until he decides to resume the project again. Here are more of our favorites.
