Japanese Ceramic Artist Creates Thousands Of Cute Miniature Vases

Japanese ceramic artist Yuta Segawa is an expert in miniature pottery, especially tiny vases. He makes them by hand and chooses to do so in small sizes because he finds it a challenge to test whether he’s able to make them on such a small scale. Besides playing with size, Segawa also likes to play with color, using jewel-like tones. In addition, Segawa has developed more than 500 unique and colorful glazes. He is a founder of SGW lab and after learning advanced ceramic skills in Japan and China, he moved to London where he currently works and lives.

Segawa mostly works with clays like porcelain, terracotta, and stoneware to create his magnificent art, but he also experiments with new methods of throwing and texture. Sagawa is very detail-oriented – his miniatures are processed with as many details as full-size items and he has a large hunger for innovation. One of his projects called Action was about experimenting with various body parts to form clay, by using a technique he refers to as ‘body throwing’. The technique consists of using his feet, chest and even mouth to create irregular and skewed bowls.

In the pictures below check out Sagawa’s beautiful collection of miniature vases – and try not to fall in love with them, if you can!
