Javier de Riba Brings Color to Gray Urban Environments

Color plays an essential part in the way we perceive certain spaces, especially those in urban environments. If everything is gray and monotonous, the space will look uninviting cold. But if you put some vibrant colors in the mix, our entire perception changes.

Javier de Riba is a Catalan visual artist who is on a mission to bring color to gray urban environments and makes them more inviting. He does that through his “Floors” project, which he paints vibrant and complex designs on “abandoned floors”.

His works are done in the form of traditional Spanish decorative tiles, forming tile carpets that stand out from its surrounding and immediately capture the attention of passersby.

“With his interventions on the public space he tries to question the value of objects and spaces. He proposes a slough off skin that changes the perception of these spaces,” it says on his official website.

Javier de Riba, who is a member of the renowned Barcelona-based art group Reskate Arts & Crafts Collective, has created pieces for his “Floors” project across Spain and abroad, including Portugal and China.
