Jon Foreman Turns Beach Stones Into Art

Land artist Jon Foreman arranges stones into artistic formations on the beaches of Wales. He calls the work he does Sculpt the World. His home town of Pembrokeshire, Wales is located near numerous beaches where he can go to make his stone art in the sand.

“The simple act of placing stone upon stone in the sand is very therapeutic,” Foreman told My Modern Met. “I’m sure we all enjoy a walk on the beach but this process I find to be more immersive; being there in nature, losing myself in the work, having left behind all the stresses of day to day life.”

He typically needs around four hours to finish a piece. His process starts with an idea and continues with him looking for the stones, then arranging them to fit the idea he had in mind. Instead of planning the formation to detail, he likes to see where the stones will take him and leave the process open to develop creativity.
