Michelle Staub Will Give You Cuteness Overload With Her Pet Portrait Embroidery

If you’re a proud cat owner looking for a way to immortalize your cat or dog through art, Michelle Staub is just the artist that you’re looking for. She created quite a splash with her pet portrait embroidery and each of her “thread paintings” is as pawtastic as it gets!

Staub is a self-taught embroidery artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio. She found huge success since she started using needle and thread to craft custom hand-stitched pet portraits in 2014, but how did she decide to go down this road?

“My biggest inspiration is the love that people share with their pets. It’s so rewarding to create a personalized piece of artwork to commemorate a pet and celebrate its life. I am unbelievably grateful to make such meaningful and personal art for people,” Staub told Domestika.

The technique Staub uses is quite unique. She describes it as thread painting or needle painting rather than embroidery because her movements and stitches are similar to brush strokes.

Staub attracted almost 190,000 Instagram followers to her Instagram page @stitchingsabbatical since embarking on this creative journey. She also shared the secrets of her craft in an online course and a book Pet Portrait Embroidery: Lovingly Stitch Your Dog Or Cat.
