Miguel Vasquez Creates Realistic and Unsettling Versions of Cartoon Characters

You’ve probably wondered more than once about what would some famous characters from cartoons look like in real life. Well, no need to wonder anymore. Thanks to digital artist Miguel Vasquez, now we know.

Vasquez is known for creating realistic digital versions of cartoon characters. He gives them human-like features but keeps true to their original design, resulting in somewhat unsettling forms of the characters we know and love.

In one interview, Vasquez revealed that he started creating these characters as a way to cope with boredom in school.

“I had started drawing these characters at school when I got bored because it seemed like no-one had quite got the dimensions like for what these cartoons would look like in real life,” he revealed.

His first couple of characters were Luigi from the Super Mario Bros. video game series and Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants. After these first creations caused a buzz on the internet, Vasquez decided to continue doing them.

This talented young artist sometimes deliberately makes the characters look as “creepy” as possible, but internet users still keep asking for more.

“I love seeing the reactions. It’s just bringing to life what the original creators gave to the cartoon characters,” Vasquez adds.
