Cake pops experienced a huge boom in recent years and the list of food artists who make them is pretty much endless, but no one does it better than Raymond Tan. He’s one of the bakers responsible for putting this dessert on the map and his cake pops have to be seen to believed.
Tan is based in Melbourne, Australia and he saw baking as just a humble hobby when he first gave it a try. He started baking while completing his master’s degree in accounting because he needed a creative outlet that would get his mind off the studies that he wasn’t extremely interested in.
Tan quickly became known as that friend who brings a delicious dessert to every party, and his passion for baking grew from there. He’s now best known for his signature cake pops and he started making them as a way to avoid food waste.
“The idea of it came from using leftover cake scraps from my offcuts and failed attempts at bad recipes. I find the usual round cake pop shape was a little dated and decided that the little popsicle shape would give me a slightly bigger canvas to play with,” Tan told Bored Panda.
