Alyssa “Lyss” McKay is a 21-year-old TikTok star, known for her videos where she plays “Lyss”, a mean, rich-girl character. Her acting journey started in 2018 when she started doing lip sync videos of scenes from popular TV shows and movies, and now she has more than eight million followers on TikTok, and is living her best life. But is she your stereotypical posh princess?
Growing up in Portland, Oregon, McKay’s childhood was not easy. She was moved from one foster home to another until she found a family that adopted her. “Since the character I play is a rich, snobby brat, everyone is like, ‘I bet she acts like that in real life,’ but I am a foster kid. Everything I have I worked for,” McKay explained.
Before Lyss became famous, she worked at Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt in Clackamas, Oregon. Now she gets up at ten, puts her makeup on, writes new hip-hop lyrics in her notebook, and starts filming.
“My favorite moment of every day is doing my makeup, uploading a rich girl rap, and watching the comments pour in,” she said in a statement for Willamette Week and added people do think she is a real-life Lyss.
