Scott Fife Explores Relationship Between Humans and Animals With “Cardboard Kingdom”

Seattle-based sculptor Scott Fife recently presented his new art series titled Cardboard Kingdom. This powerful series explores the relationship between humans and animals through large-scale sculptures of dogs, bears, jaguars, and wolves, among other animals.

Fife’s sculptures are unique and captivating in several ways. They are imposing in their look but also brittle in their creation, being made out of cardboard and glue and patched out of several pieces without the attempt to hide the stitches. But these elements are not there by accident.

The Cardboard Kingdom features animals that are mainly part of human mythology or folklore. By building them with basic and fragile material, Fife prompts the viewers to think about the way they treat animals they once considered so mighty.

“Physically beautiful; we endear these animals with many meanings. But they are predators and prey in a brutal world,” Fife explains. “These are portraits of individuals as they are in nature, balancing survival.”

Cardboard Kingdom is currently exhibited at the reputable Traver Gallery in Seattle. The exhibition will be displayed until December 22. If you don’t have the opportunity to see the sculptures in person, check out some photos below.
