If you still don’t know Jae’lynn Chaney’s name, it’s about time you learned it. She’s taking Instagram and TikTok by storm with her body positivity-themed content, openly speaking about the struggles of exploring the world as a plus size travel blogger.

With over 90,000 followers on Instagram and over 100,000 on TikTok, Chaney is turning out to be one of the biggest rising stars in the travel blogging world. What separates her from most others is that she’s a plus size woman of color, committed to inspiring others to love their bodies and own who they are.

Chaney believes that her content became such a huge hit online because she’s showing the world that you can be happy, explore the world, and wear clothes that you want to wear even if you don’t fit in society’s beauty standards.

“A larger individual who’s found love and travels the world and who’s happy and confident and who helps others find those things is why people connect with me. I give them hope and inspiration that they can live their best life, no matter what their size,” she told Oregon Live.

Despite trying to keep her content positive and offbeat, Chaney is very open about the struggles she’s facing as a plus size traveler and she chronicled them in a series of viral TikTok videos.

Despite their best efforts, many major fashion brands struggle to be size-inclusive and create clothes for different body types. Two BFFs Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos embarked on a quest to find clothes that fit their different body types and started a viral campaign “Style Not Size”.

Mercedes found success as a plus-size model long before this campaign saw the light of day. She worked with such brands as Forever 21, Target, and JCPenney, and she was no stranger to viral campaigns after promoting body positivity with #becauseitsmybody.

Mercedes met Maria Castellanos a few years back when she started shooting photos for her Instagram and blog. She encouraged her to take pictures of herself, as well, and that’s how the idea for “Style Not Size” was born.

Mercedes and Castellanos started wearing the same clothes in different sizes, in an attempt to showcase that all body types can wear the same item and look beautiful, and they were overwhelmed by the positive response they’ve received since starting this campaign.

“We’re so used to only seeing one body type being praised and that leaves a lot of other people out. The series makes other people feel included and they tell us their confidence levels went up so much. You never know who you’re inspiring!” Mercedes told Naira NYC.

How many times have you hated the way you look? Because grandma told you that you are skin and bone? Or your brother said you are fat and ugly? And let us be honest. It hurt, didn’t it?

Mikayla Zazon is a 25-year-old creator, speaker, and leader who is “on a mission to normalize normal bodies, and help women find the courage to speak their truth and the confidence to love themselves at any size.”

The social media influencer has more than 997,000 Instagram followers, 1.4 million admirers, and 42.2 million likes on her TikTok account. Better known as Mik on the internet, she talks about body positivity and self-acceptance in her posts.

Although she doesn’t find confidence every day, for her, there is no finish line.

“Loving your body doesn’t have to be perfect. But the process of loving your body looks more like accepting your body at every stage in your life. And that’s an act of love,” she said in an interview for Frank Body.

She also added that she could not choose a favorite body part: “My favorite body part is probably all of it. I love how perfectly imperfect it is.”

If you are struggling with your body image, you should definitely check out Mik’s social media platforms.

Award-winning journalist and author Radhika Sanghani has come to be known for her wit, humor, and candid style of writing. But Sanghani is also the propeller of a body positivity movement that began by chance. “I started a #sideprofileselfie movement where I encouraged people who didn’t like their noses to take a photo of them in side profile and share it on social media,” she recalled in a piece published on Glamour Magazine. Within days, the hashtag went viral, and Sanghani became the unofficial “big nose queen”.

But things weren’t always that simple, and Sanghani road to self acceptance was a long, meandering one. “I had a nose that completely went against society’s definitions of beautiful,” she says. “And so, for my teen years up into my twenties, I always believed I was lacking in the looks department.”

According to Sanghani, her change in attitude began with the rise in body positive movements on social media. “I started to realise that I didn’t have to hate the way I looked; I could learn to love it instead.” Other people followed suit, and the big-nose movement was on its way.

Most recently, Sanghani gave a TedX talk called “How to love yourself”. A body positive campaigner, her third novel titled “30 Things I Love About Myself”, is loosely based on her own self-love journey, and will be published in January 2022.

“The truth is that now I finally find myself beautiful, I’m so much freer, and I can actually enjoy dating rather than living in constant fear that they’ll think I’m not good enough,” says Sanghani. “I don’t need a man to validate me – I just want someone who’s going to add to my life. And if someone doesn’t like my nose, or the fact I’m so vocal about self-love, then I have no qualms in saying goodbye.”

Her uplifting spirit and witty approach towards a heavy loaded subject are worth noting. Follow her social media pages for more updates.

Illustrator, coffee drinker, and mother of three, Stacie Swift is all about those positive vibes. Focusing on positivity, self-care, and mental wellbeing, her illustrations are a colorful combination of hand-drawn images and type, all aimed at spreading some kindness (on the internet, as well as in real life).

By combining bold artwork with relatable and honest captions Swift has established a massive Instagram following of over 230k people. Her content also includes some tips and tricks on how to stay positively present (you’ve got this!). One post titled “Don’t Believe Everything You Think”, helps you get back on track when you feel the imposter syndrome kick in. “Practice saying and thinking positive things about yourself,” writes Swift. “Keep a record of praise, positivity and things you’ve done well,” she adds.

Another recent post includes “Six Tips For When We Feel Overwhelmed”. “Have a break; take some deep breaths,” notes Swift. “Spend some time doing something you enjoy. When everything is “GO, GO, GO” don’t forget to take a moment to recalibrate and refocus.”

There’s also some creative content you can download, such as cheerful posters to hang in the work place or a cute compliment tear sheet. “In a world of online trolls and where the kindness of strangers can get a little lost in the sea of upsetting news headlines, and the chaos day to day life, an uplifting comment or a note of praise can go a long way!” observes Swift.

Swift’s debut book, “You Are Positively Awesome” is due to be published by Pavilion in May 2020. But in the meantime, you’re more than welcome to follow her work online and pay it forward.

Belgium-based Prudence Geertz is a 27-year old artist, whose art’s growing popularity can be ascribed to its relatability and endearing honesty. Geertz started publishing her art as a sort of comic-diary, a therapeutic way for her to deal with everyday events that bugged her, or emotions and thoughts she experienced.

Upon realizing that many others – especially other young women – related to how she felt, she started increasingly making comics focusing on body positivity and mental health. She hopes that her art can make others feel good and less alone in their struggles.

Geertz herself experienced a sort of trauma when she was studying at art school – where she was often criticized for drawing in a way that was too “commercial.” Due to a scandal related to sexual extortion, which prevented her from getting her art degree, Geertz lost touch with art for some time, feeling disillusioned with the art world.

However, once she started drawing again and saw her art’s impact on the world, she decided to continue creating. Her bad experiences have inspired her to be a strong and encouraging voice for other women, to speak up more, and share a feeling of value and togetherness with her community.
