]]>Gilbert was just one-and-a-half years old when she started losing her hair, and she was officially diagnosed with alopecia areata one year later. Her hair loss only became worse over the years, and she eventually shaved her hair off but later started losing eyelashes and eyebrows during her teenage years.
Makeup helped her cope with this loss and slowly became her safe haven. She felt conscious about her appearance as a teen and getting creative with makeup helped her cope with her insecurities. People often complimented her on her makeup, and she eventually decided to share her tutorials with the world.
They quickly blew up online and became a huge hit among women who also live with alopecia. Gilbert’s video made them feel seen, and they started going to her for advice on the makeup front.
Makeup videos put her Instagram page @danigmakeup on the map, and she later started her own wig brand DMuse, creating high-quality wigs that guarantee comfort and style while looking realistic.

]]>Nicky Hill is a British make-up guru who uses her skills and talent to transform herself into a celebrity. With the help of a brush and some lipstick, she can easily become Adele, Angelina Jolie, or even Robin Williams.
Other than taking on the faces of singers and actors, Hill also likes to experiment with other optical illusions. This includes taking on fictional characters or performing some horror-inspired looks.
Hill started experimenting with different looks after the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for her to do her usual work. She decided to focus on creativity and use the free time trying other make-up styles.
This turned out to be a great decision, as Hill’s works have been met with much praise on social media. Check out some of them below.

Based in London, Bruce has trained professionally at the London College of Fashion, and now travels around the world, across Europe, the US and Asia, with clients including brands like Kenzo and Opening Ceremony, as well as Rita Ora.
“My work is very collaborative,” she told Lecture in Progress, explaining her work process “from the moment you’re asked your availability to contributing to the shoot concept and physically applying the make-up. You’ll be assessing a model’s features, thinking about what may suit them, and how it will fit in with the overall concept.” According to Bruce, when it comes to photoshoots, it’s very important to visualize the bigger picture, as you’re working on the finer details.
“I work predominantly within fashion, but also crossover into celebrity and music,” she added. “The clients I tend to work for are fashion or art magazines, fashion brands, and musicians. The more high-profile brands and bigger clients naturally develop me as I go and with each job I gain a little more confidence!”
Her Instagram page will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone—at least a little.
