]]>Crisafi is currently based in Chicago, but his body of work is heavily influenced by the dark history of his home state of Massachusetts. We’ve seen him explore everything from illustration to sculpture over the years, but he caught our eyes when he started making haute couture masks that reflect his love for the occult.
Crisafi usually explores the themes of magic and folklore through his work, but a touch of camp and humor is present in all of them. This way, his masks manage to look scary and funny at the same time, and their duality is one of their strongest suits.
Crisafi works closely with fashion designer Hogan McLaughlin, whose client list includes the likes of Lady Gaga and Billy Porter. They share the same vision and love for dark romance and fantastical tales, and Crisafi’s masks look their best when they’re used as companion pieces to McLaughlin’s dresses at fashion shows.

]]>Damsel Frau is a brand founded by Magnhild Kennedy, a self-taught Norwegian artist based in London. She made a name for herself by crafting the most show-stopping wearable art—usually masks—and she sees them as much more than mere objects.
“I work with masks as autonomous works of art as well as action-objects. For me the mask is a place where different elements come together as situation. The work is about this place-situation, more so than the mask as a theme or category of form. The mask is a place,” reads Demsel Frau’s official website.
Demsel Frau’s masks are usually sewn by hand and she utilizes the most incredible materials to create them. Kennedy uses both self-produced and found materials, some of which happen to be centuries old. She takes pride in not sketching her designs beforehand and figuring them out as she goes along, solving technical problems and improvising to make the best of the materials at hand.

His masks resemble tribal masks and look like they have a deeper meaning, but Pot assures everyone that they’re simply a fun result of a fail attempt at making rugs. Either way, we enjoyed browsing his Instagram page where he shares his art and we believe you will, too. In the meantime, scroll down to see the masks.
