Damsel Frau is a brand founded by Magnhild Kennedy, a self-taught Norwegian artist based in London. She made a name for herself by crafting the most show-stopping wearable art—usually masks—and she sees them as much more than mere objects.
“I work with masks as autonomous works of art as well as action-objects. For me the mask is a place where different elements come together as situation. The work is about this place-situation, more so than the mask as a theme or category of form. The mask is a place,” reads Demsel Frau’s official website.
Demsel Frau’s masks are usually sewn by hand and she utilizes the most incredible materials to create them. Kennedy uses both self-produced and found materials, some of which happen to be centuries old.
