Have you ever wanted to feel like a Disney princess? Well, now you can with Teuta Matoshi’s dresses. If you think the name feels familiar, that’s because she’s the sister to Lirika Matoshi, the mastermind behind the viral strawberry dress. And while Lirika’s dresses have gotten lots of hype on social media, Teuta’s work shouldn’t be missed.
The sisters are two of nine siblings, who come from Kosovo, a small nation in the central Balkans. The family grew up in poverty and Teuta taught herself how to create clothing from old garments. She continued her passion for fashion throughout middle school and high school by making clothes for her family and friends. She attended a fashion design university in Kosovo and earned a Fashion Design degree and worked her way up to building her luxury brand in 2007.
Her first collection specialized in high-quality coats and in the same night it debuted, it sold out. Her current work features whimsical, girly gowns with embellishments and embroidery. Teuta’s work is instantly recognizable as it has colorful combinations of lace, tulle, and embellishments, custom boning, and elegant corsets.
She now works with her sister in an atelier in New York City where she sells her gowns. Some of her clients include celebrities like Elle King and Alia Bhatt.
