Traveling the world is usually considered something that younger people do. However, seniors Sandy Hazelip and Ellie Hamby would strongly disagree. These 81-year-olds have just returned from an 80-day trip around the world, and they enjoyed every moment of it.
Inspired by the classic novel “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne, Hazelip and Hamby got the idea a few years back to travel the world in 80 days when they reach the age of 80. The global pandemic forced them to postpone their plans, but they didn’t have any intention of giving up.
Once the world opened for traveling again, the two friends proceeded to make their idea a reality in January this year. They started off in Antarctica and then went on to visit all seven continents, setting foot in some of the most exciting tourist destinations.
Along the way, the seniors have shared updates on their journey on social media. They also started a travel blog, hoping to inspire others to go out and see the world.
“The thing that has excited both of us is how we’ve brought people joy as they followed us on this adventure,” Hazelip shared in a chat with NBC.
Hazelip and Hamby returned from their trip in March to find out that they had become internet sensations. People have recognized them on the street, and they are getting tons of positive and inspiring comments.
