This Artist Creates Beautiful Wool Artwork That Looks Like Oil Paintings

Monica Henry is a self-taught textile artist based in Geelong, Australia who “moves some old time art into the modern world.” The idea to create her floral textile art came naturally; she culminates her skills in design and her family history of working in wool. In the past years, she has visited many countries, like the USA and Canada and has traveled extensively through Asia, where she was influenced by the Japanese culture.

To create her art pieces, she seeks inspiration from various textures, fabrics, botanical nature, and the movement of the threads. She merges a wide selection of different wools together with a range of stitches and techniques to create patterns, textures, levels, and contrast.

“My aim is to create art that is visually beautiful, capturing the viewers eye and pulling them into the artwork, with no real beginning or end to the piece,” the artist shared with Vernissage.
