If you’ve never heard of Twitter and Instagram page “We Rate Dogs” before, you’re in for a treat! This page became a true social media sensation thanks to sharing adorable photos of pups with hilarious captions and assigning fitting ratings to each one.
Matt Nelson was still a college student at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina when he decided to start this Twitter page. After attracting around 10,000 followers to his personal account, he asked them if he should start a dog rating account, and decided to do it after receiving largely positive reactions.
It didn’t take long for “We Rate Dogs” to become a huge Twitter sensation and expand to other social media platforms. The combination of cute dog photos and Nelson’s snarky remarks proved to be a winning formula, and he later started a spin-off page Thoughts of Dog.
This Twitter account attracted 9.3 million followers in the years to come—not to mention 2.3 million more on Instagram. Its success led to the launch of an online store, branded game, and a book called #WeRateDogs: The Most Hilarious and Adorable Pups You’ve Ever Seen.
