Tim Benson Paints Portraits That Make You Think

There are generally two facets to consider when assessing an artist’s work. What they’re creating, and how they’re creating it. Both of these aspects play a large role in how we view art, and the more cohesiveness the two elements have, the stronger the impact. In the case of Tim Benson’s work, we’ve been enchanted hook, link, and sinker.

As far as the “what”, Benson paints up-close portraits. These portraits can be people that he cares about, such as “Mum”, or even an empathetic impression of an “Ebola Survivor”. Sometimes it can even be something as simple as a “Head of a Man”. As far as the “what” is concerned Benson knows exactly what’s he’s doing, and seems to do so with a clear head.

When it comes to the “how” of it all, our minds our blown even further. His use of broad brush strokes, contrasting skin colors, and precise movements are done with such mastery that his subjects truly come to life. It’s not hard to imagine who these people were in real life. And if they didn’t ever exist but in his mind, they’ve officially come into reality thanks to Benson’s great work.
