When it comes to beautiful food art, there are tons of chefs who have made a living from it, but Totally Gourmet falls in a completely different category. In fact, this Instagram page run by Sébastien Mathys and Jonas Nyffenegger, is something else entirely, and to say we haven’t seen it done before would be an understatement.
Totally Gourmet started as a spin-off of Ugly Design, a page that features design fails. Totally Gourmet has food-related pictures that show a side of food that’s odd and may even be unsettling for some.
The creators behind the Instagram page are passionate about cooking and they’re drawn to weirdness. “We like to experiment in the kitchen and try new flavors whenever given the opportunity,” they told Bored Panda.
Between the two of them, they’ve had quite a bunch of cooking disaster stories including one where Nyffenegger cooked fermented fish for a party and the smell was so pungent that everyone within a 50m radius had to leave.
Both of their Instagram pages have a shock value, making beauty from things that are ugly. And although a bit odd, we find that quite appealing.
