Veselka Bulkan’s Botanical Embroidery is Blooming Outside the Frame

Botanical embroidery has been around since the dawn of time and the list of artists who do it these days is pretty much endless. Veselka Bulkan is one of them, but she managed to put a fun twist on this popular theme, by embordering felted veggies whitling out of the frame

Bulkan goes by @catchtheinspiration on Instagram and her unique form of embroidery art attracted over 50,000 followers so far. Her page is pretty versatile, featuring everything from home décor and food inspiration to travel photos, but embroidery remains her biggest passion.

Before turning to embroidery, Bulkan received a bachelor’s degree in painting, and she has 10 years of fine art education under her belt. Embroidery started as a hobby for her but eventually became a full-time job, after frequent relocations made it difficult for her to dedicate herself to oil painting.

Nature is a pretty common theme in embroidery art, but Bulkan is presenting it in a whole new light. She’s best known for creating art inspired by root vegetables, such as carrots and radishes, that show their roots sticking out of the frame.

“I love working with all kind of natural materials such as cotton, canvas, wood, wool, raffia, paper, discovering new techniques while playing around with them, or pointing out classical ones in a very different way,” explains Bulkan on her official website.
