Woman Decides to Go Back to College at 84, Wants to Get Her GED

They often say you are never too old to do things you want. That is the approach the North Carolina native Shirley Jones is taking by going back to college at the age of 84 in order to get her GED.

Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC, recently shared Jones’ story on their social media. According to the post, Jones, who has two daughters and one grandchild, decided to enroll in PCC after her husband passed away. She is doing so well that she was inducted into the National Adult Honors Society last month through Transitional Studies at the school.

PCC also said that Jones settled in nicely and loves “the personalities of the students and how nice everyone is.”

It also didn’t take long for Jones to command the love of her teachers and fellow students.

“They miss me when I’m not there, and when I go back, they are glad to see me,” Jones said in an interview with WNCT-TV.

She also offered some words of inspiration for others thinking about doing the same.

“It’s not that hard. It is just putting your whole mind in it,” she added.
