Works of Amahi Mori Show Symbiosis of Butterflies Using Leaves

Butterflies are one of nature’s most beautiful creations. As such, it is no wonder that they inspire many artists who are mesmerized by the complex patterns and vivid colors of their wings.

One artist who captures the beauty of butterfly wings in their works is Amahi Mori. But the way she does that is really unique and something we haven’t seen before.

Mori creates pencil drawings of butterflies in symbiosis with leaves. In them, butterflies partially adopt veined leaves as part of their wings, creating an intriguing contrast. The green color of the leaves makes the remaining portions of their natural wings stand out even more, allowing the viewer to fully appreciate their beauty.

According to Mori, her works are based on actual butterflies you can encounter in nature.

“I draw while looking at actual butterfly specimens and picked leaves,” she explains. “I feel the impermanence and brilliance of life in the still vivid figure that does not move anymore.”

Mori creates a variety of other pencil works that depict the symbiosis of leaves with other living organisms, including humans. You can find those on her official website and social media. But first, check out more of her beautiful butterflies below.
