As summer turns into autumn and autumn quickly faded into winter, we find ourselves longing for a summery vacation, Covid-free and carefree. But until then, we take comfort in Camille Shu’s bright illustrations. Forever in spring, her work features flowers and fruit, colored in vibrant color palettes that work as instant mood lifters.

“I try to bring color into people’s lives,” explained the Portland-based illustrator in an interview with Bridge & Burn. “Especially in the winters here, we need more color! So I hope to give people a burst of energy when they look at the colorful work that I have painted.”

“I’ve always been obsessed with plants,” she adds, remarking that being as her mom is an amazing gardener, she basically grew up in the garden. “The seasonal changes here provide constant muse-material and I always have my eye on what’s popping up around us,” says Shu, “whether it’s in my garden, my neighbor’s garden, or the farmers market.”

According to Shu, her fruit paintings mostly reflect the fruit she was eating that season. “Same goes for flowers,” she notes, “I am truly amazed when I look at flowers like how does something that cool exist?”
