Kato is a 120-pound Great Pyrenees dog who at 5 years old, isn’t quite as sturdy and vigorous as he once was as a puppy.

Recently, he went to a hiking in Colorado with his humans when, about a mile from the trailhead, he just got tired to continue. Fortunately, Kato’s friends called Evergreen Fire Rescue for help and soon after, a group of volunteers arrived with a stretcher to carry the fluffy white dog to safety.

Kato’s not-so-happy experience on the trail that day may have taught him and his owners to take it easier the next time they’ll go hiking. It’s good to know that there are rescuers who are always ready to help in any circumstances.

“We choose to help animals,” Evergreen Fire Rescue spokesperson Stacee Martin told 9News. “Doesn’t matter if it’s a horse stuck in the mud, owls that fall out of the nest … this is something that the community supports.”
