Cat Serves as a “Pawwfect Witness” For TikToker’s Marriage License

Did you know that your pet can be a witness for your marriage license? Sounds strange, but it is actually true, at least if you live in the state of Colorado.

TikToker Manda Moeck Terry recently shared a viral video in which her cat Momo served as a “pawwfect witness” for her marriage license. The clip, which got 5.5 million views in just over a week, shows the newlyweds helping Momo “sign” the marriage license with his paw.

Momo was the best witness we could have asked for. My mom lost our orginal wedding certificate paperwork so we were able to do this in Colorado. #coloradocats #weddingpawty #catsoftiktok

Understandably, the TikTok users were amazed by the video and intrigued by the possibility of having their pet give an official “green light” to their marriage.

“Brb getting divorced so we can get re-married in Colorado with our cat as our witness,” wrote @itscarlyariel.

“Omg I joked about how I wanted my cat to sign / witness mine and mt bf license one day, but I didn’t know it was real omg,” added @saramaus_.

As it turns out, Colorado’s self-solemnizing marriage law doesn’t require an officiating party or official witnesses to be present for the marriage ceremony. The couple simply applies for the marriage license in their local county clerk’s office at a cost of $30 and then returns it in 35 days. This way, it is perfectly legal for your pet to be the witness. Colorado, here we come.
