Chuck Mullin’s Funny Comics Show an Anxious Pigeon Trying to Find His Place in the World

Many illustrators on Instagram are creating funny comics in the hope they’ll help readers feel a little better about themselves, including Chuck Mullin. Bird Brian takes center stage in many of his comics and he’s an anxious pigeon trying to deal with the ups and downs of life.

Mullin was always a huge fan of drawing, and he started creating comics when he was in his twenties. At first, he created comics where he was the main character, but he later decided to start drawing comics that put pigeons front and center—and this wasn’t a coincidence.

“The first pigeon comic I made was about a pigeon being able to understand the mean things people say about them, but staying strong and confident regardless. I think it resonated with people because pigeons get a lot of hate so they’re very relatable underdog figures,” Mullin told Bored Panda.

He opened his Instagram page @chuckdrawsthings in 2016, and it went on to become a huge hit, with almost 90,000 followers. His illustrations became a huge success because they hit close to home and show Bird Brian dealing with many relatable issues, despite being a pigeon. Mullin’s comics truly resonated with his followers, who recognized themselves in Brian’s struggles to find his own place in the modern world.
