Converse Creates Sneakers Out of Upcycled Velvet

Despite Chuck Taylor sneakers being around for over a century, its producer Converse still manages to find a way to put a unique twist on them. And they almost never disappoint their passionate customers, as their most recent release shows.

The newest Converse on the market is Chuck 70 model with canvas made out of upcycled velvet. The company teamed up with vintage clothing retail giant Beyond Retro, which provided 820 pounds of salvaged velvet to be used as an upcycled material for the sneakers.

The collaboration resulted in thousands of Chuck 70s, with each pair being unique thanks to variations in the design, color, and embroidery. Both high-top and low-top versions are currently available, with prices ranging from $75 to $90.

“In the upcycle process, the colors and texture of the velvet varies, so each pair is unique, giving you a style that’s all your own,” it says in the official description.

This isn’t the first time that Converse and Beyond Retro have teamed up to make unique Chuck Taylors. While cotton is usually the main material, the canvas of the shoe, the company substituted it with denim, flannel, and Hawaiian shirts for some of their previous editions.
