Dyson Creates Futuristic Headphones with Air Purification

Singapore-based tech company Dyson is best known for its household appliances like vacuum cleaners and air purifiers, but that could soon change. The company is venturing into the headphones business and is doing it in a spectacular way.

Dyson recently announced its first headphones, known as Dyson Zone. According to the company, these headphones provide quality audio, 50 hours of run time, and state-of-the-art noise cancelation. But this isn’t actually their selling point; it’s the fact that they come with an air-purifying function.

The headphones are designed in a way that each earpiece sucks the air from the surroundings and filters it through a complex filtration system. The clean air is then fed to the user through a visor. You can also detach the visor and use only the audio function of the headphones.

According to the company, Dyson Zone was six years in the making. Its engineers created more than 500 prototypes before coming up with the final design.

“The Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps,” explained the company’s chief engineer Jake Dyson. “After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver pure air and pure audio anywhere.”

Dyson Zone is set to make its debut in January in China. It will make its way to the U.S., the UK, and other international markets in March for a price of $949.
