French Artist Celebrates the World’s Rarest Color

Isabelle Simler is a French artist who focuses on exploring the rarest blue pigment found in nature. Her series called Blue Hour browses through nature trying to spot this exact color in various places, from depths of the ocean to bluejay birds.

If there’s something that we can learn from her work, it’s that sometimes it’s better to focus hard on one thing instead of spreading ourselves too thin with many other things.

As Colossal quotes her, the artist focuses on “this time of day, when daytime animals enjoy the last moments before nighttime animals wake up. This in-between where the sounds and smells are denser and where the bluish light gives depth to the landscapes.”

Her illustrations are also available as a book, and that’s not the only one she’s written. She holds a Decorative Arts degree and has been working as an author and illustrator in publishing for several years. Before 2012, she used to work in the animation field as a director, screenwriter, and illustrator.
