Gemma Correll’s Witty Comics Will Help You Deal With the Ups and Downs of Life

The funniest people are often the saddest and they use humor to deal with the ups and downs of life. That seems to be the case with many of our favorite illustrators on Instagram, including Gemma Correll, who’s using her witty comics to cope with anxiety and depression.

With 935,000 followers under her belt, Correll is one of Instagram’s most popular illustrators, but it took her a while to get there. She’s been drawing since her childhood and went to an art school where she got a degree in graphic design before finding success online with her comics featuring snippets from her everyday life.

Correll’s page experienced a huge boom once she started sharing comics about her struggles with anxiety and depression. Mental health was rarely spoken about in comics when she first decided to open up about it, but she felt compelled to share it with the world because it was her own form of therapy.

“I noticed that my followers responded to the comics about mental health very strongly and overwhelmingly positive. “I think being open about these things help to destigmatize them and to also give words and images to feelings that can be difficult to decipher and describe,” Correll told Bored Panda.
