Gemma Nics, a British graphic artist, is the creator of this funny and insightful illustrated book that’s full of conversations and comments she found on social media during this year’s COVID-19 pandemic. Her book is a real testimony of the year we’ve all been through and it’s likely that many of us will find its content relatable.
Coronavirus: A Social Commentary is meant to provide readers with some comfort. Virtually all of us have experienced isolation in one way or the other during 2020. “What’s got a lot of us through this pandemic is our sense of collective humanity,” Nics tells Creative Boom. “The coming togetherness we have felt in trying to support one another through this challenging time.”
She notes that people around the world are going through many of the same experiences right now, having to comfort their friends, care for the elderly, and struggle with their own mental health.
Her goal is to hopefully provide a comforting voice within the darkness, a shining light for people to hold onto.
