Illustrated Norwegian Words with Literal Meaning by Mats Iversen

Mats Iversen is a guy from Norway who enjoys translating words to English, and often catches himself trying to translate their literal meaning. This is because they hilariously sound like the thing they represent in Norwegian, so he decided to share this quirk with the world—along with cute illustrations!

On his Instagram account, he shares the bad/literal translation of a particular word, its original Norwegian version, and the actual word used for it in English. If you’re someone who enjoys language trivia, we’re sure you’ll find his page entertaining! He currently has around 1,500 followers and the number will surely grow in the future.

“I hope people will like it, and maybe have a little laugh, also I hope that you guys can come up with words from your own language that would seem weird to non-speakers,” Iversen told Bored Panda.

You can see some of his word illustrations below and check out more on his Instagram page where he shares them regularly.
