In Style: Esra Roise’s Breathtaking Fashion Illustrations

The fashion industry is made up of more than just designers, magazine editors, and photographers—it’s made up of illustrators too. Unlike photographers, who tend to be more or less committed to reality, a fashion illustrator has endless freedom when it comes to his or her vision and aesthetic.

Esra Roise is one of those creative individuals. Her illustrations—black and white, with a hint of color—seem to capture the spirit of fashion, while remaining fairly minimal. Based in Oslo, this minimalism suits the Nordic aesthetic in general.

“I often start doodling with no special direction and it just takes on a life of its own throughout the process,” Roise shared in an interview with Artflakes. Her intuitive approach seems to have worked, attracting clients as prominent as VOGUE, Stella McCartney, Burberry, Estée Lauder, and NIKE.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be graced with awesome clients that often let me play around with the given tasks, and just do my thing, which I very much enjoy,” she added. “But that being said, I try to accommodate the clients wish as much as I can without compromising my own aesthetic when working with a specific brief. With personal work, it is more of a spur of the moment-inspirations that can go in any which direction I chose.”
