Jun Cen’s Illustrations are Clean and Colorful

Jun Cen creates illustrations that are meaningful, clear, and feature a palette of colors unique to him. The artist was born in China and attended the Academy of Fine Arts. After that, he continued his education at the Maryland Institute College of Art, before moving to New York where he currently lives.

He always knew that art would be his life calling. His style, however, changed and evolved over time. The list of the clients he’s worked with, according to his site, includes names like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Vogue,GQ, The Verge, Grantland, Oxford University Press, PLANSPONSOR, Rimowa, Mont Blanc, Chanel, Chevron, IBM Watson, and more.

this is part of the Postcards from a Pandemic curated by the New Yorker. I drew a scene from my quarantine life in Guangzhou, China. My friend and I would sometimes meet up at a flyover that’s close to both of our homes. Looking at the empty street, we’d smoke a cigarette or two, chat a little bit then head home. The location is also full of memories. When I was a teenager I used to frequent one of the buildings where they secretly sell foreign CDs. These CDs were remaindered copies with cut-outs on the spines from the western and Japanese markets. They eventually made it to China and influenced many many Chinese music lovers (lots of them would later form their own bands and become famous) from late 90s to early 2000s. This place Gang Ding was the beginning of such a cultural scene.
