Konekono Kitsune’s Embroidery Leafy Greens Look Incredibly Real

Botanic embroidery is such as popular art form on Instagram that it’s difficult to make your mark, but Konekono Kitsune managed to get it done. Instead of focusing on trees and flowers, she creates incredibly realistic embroidery inspired by leafy greens.

The Japanese fiber artist behind the Instagram handle Konekono Kitsune fell in love with embroidery at a young age thanks to her grandma. She stopped doing it as a grown-up, but she decided to give it one more try after one faithful walk in the park.

She initially wanted to use embroidery art to tell fictional stories but quickly realized she was much better at stitching real things than imaginary ones. Vegetables from her sister’s garden became her main source of inspiration and she’s gotten so skilled at stitching them that they almost look alive.

Konekono Kitsune prefers capturing the details while the veggies are still fresh and she sometimes has to buy the same vegetable several times before one embroidery work is done. That’s how she achieves the incredible realism that her creations are best know for.

Her embroidery is usually inspired by leafy greens such as lettuce, spinach, and parsley, but she’s no stranger to exploring other subjects through her work, usually inspired by vegetables and nature at large.
