Kuronushi is Using the Power of Shadows to Make His Art Pop

There are many tiny miracles hiding in the shadows if you dare to look closer, and Kuronushi decided to embrace their power. This talented Japanese artist became a true social media sensation thanks to his cardboard dioramas that can project amazing shadows when pointed in the right direction.

Kuronushi has only been creating his shadow art for about a year, but that didn’t stop him from becoming an overnight sensation. He’s followed by over two million people on TikTok, where his videos attracted 60 million likes, and one of them was viewed by a whopping 350 million people!

Kuronushi’s baby daughter inspired him to start working on shadow art after he was wowed by her shadow projected on a wall on a sunny day. This pushed him to explore the potential that hides in the shadows, and he started creating unique cardboard dioramas that create incredible reflections when light is directed at them at the perfect angle.

Kuronushi’s viral videos capture his step-by-step process and mostly see him crafting intricate celebrity portraits. He paid homage to many of his favorite soccer players through shadow art, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar, but his videos inspired by Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean became the biggest hit online.
