Lucia Heffernan Gives Animals a Voice and Personality Through Her Amazing Paintings

If you’ve ever wondered what animals would do if they were human, you’re not the only one. We’ve all pondered this question at one point, but the artist Lucia Heffernan actually went searching for answers and started creating amazing illustrations that give animals a voice and personality.

Heffernan describes herself as a graphic designer by trade and an oil painter by design. She’s always been fascinated with animals, and she decided to explore that fascination through a series of paintings that put animals in human situations in a whimsical, theatrical, and often humorous way, allowing us to relate to them.

From chickens training yoga to dogs going on a roller-coaster, nothing is off-limits in Heffernan’s art. Her paintings have to be seen to be believed, but how do they come together? She often imagines herself in these same situations and looks for animals, objects, and different backgrounds that she can put together in Photoshop once the story makes sense.

“I am constantly aware of real-life scenes that would be preposterous in the animal kingdom. Humor is everywhere. I take funny situations and common expressions and try to twist them into creative interpretations that would be totally ridiculous in real life,” Heffernan told Forbes.
