Recruiters play an important part in the company’s efforts to find the best candidates for their openings. But this is only true if they do their job properly. If not, they can undermine the hiring process, and their mishaps can become viral on social media.

Creative director David Tucker recently went on Twitter to share one quite unbelievable recruitment fail he recently witnessed. According to the tweet, one recruiter contacted Tucker about a role in the company Tucker already works for. And not only that, but the role actually reports to him.

A recruiter just contacted me about a role. That role… reports to me where I currently work.

The tweet became an instant hit, getting 150K likes in less than a week. It also prompted a series of funny responses and had other Twitter users to share their own experiences with recruiters who failed to do their research.

Twitter user @tinabaylocq wrote about how one recruiter repeatedly contacted her via calls and emails and tried to get her to consider a role she already had at the same company. Eventually, @tinabaylocq had to confront the recruiter in person in order to get her to stop.

I once had a recruiter call and email me repeatedly for a role I already had at the company I already working for. I tried to tell her, but she wasn’t getting it, so last time I spoke with her, I did so by walking to her desk from mine & introducing myself.

The stories become even more outrageous further down the thread with some users sharing how they were approached for jobs they had just left while others shared how they got offered internship positions after already becoming established experts in their respective fields. Check out these and other recruitment fails shared on the thread below.

This reminds me of my 1st day at the UN—man in office next to mine was pacing around livid. I asked him what was wrong & he told me he was tasked months ago to write a speech for his boss’ boss’ boss, and today he got tasked w writing a thank you note to the speech writer

I’m a recruiter and a recruiter once contacted me to see if I’d be interested in a producer role. Not only was it for one of my clients and I was working on the same job but the last time I was a producer was 21 years ago! I LOVED showing this email to my client.

I just got this one about a research scientist internship position. I was a research scientist on that team from 2014 to 2018. pic.twitter.com/W8tKW0Dtjt

I had a recruiter contact me about a job I had left like 2 weeks before. I said bro I’m not going back and they don’t want me anyway.

I had a recruiter call me about my position. Not “my” job but a spot on my team, reporting to the same manager. I thought about applying and negotiating for more money 😉

My sister had to reapply for her own job, as it was being paid for by a diff org. She was asked if she had read the job specifications. She wrote them. She did get the job btw.
