Maria Troitskaia is Making Beautiful Cakes Inspired By Famous Buildings

Food artists draw inspiration from all sorts of different places, and Marie Troitskaia settled on architecture and travel. She’s known for crafting beautiful cakes that take shape of some of the most iconic buildings around the world.

Troitskaia isn’t a professional cook or baker, but that didn’t stop her from becoming a true sensation in the culinary world. She graduated with honors from Moscow Architectural Institute before continuing her education in France, and she now describes herself as a “pastry architect”.

Troitskaia’s cakes allow her to blend two of her passions into one and she sees them as works of art.

“Architecture and confectionery are the two main parts of my life. Thanks to these two completely different professions I was able to create my own style of desserts… Before putting ideas into practice I draw many sketches, drafts, and models, try out different recipes and ingredients,” explains Troitskaia on her official website.

Troitskaia’s love affair with building-shaped started when she created a gingerbread model of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, after years of making gingerbread houses. This cake quickly went viral, helping her attract over 30,000 Instagram followers, but her other creations are even more elaborate and pay homage to other iconic buildings in Europe and beyond.
