With 1.7 million followers on Instagram and 2.4 million more on TikTok, Mei Pang is one of the most popular makeup artists that you’ll come across online. Her journey to internet fame was pretty long, and she grew up using MySpace and Tumblr, where she initially shared her makeup art before moving to Instagram because all of her friends were there.
“I started on Tumblr, moved to Instagram, but had no goal of it being like this… I thought I could maybe post some photos to show my friends. Then I shaved my head and started doing some makeup looks, and then I started getting recognized on the streets,” Pang told BuzzFeed.
Pang honed her skills as an artist while attending the Ontario College of Arts and Design, and her classical background is pretty obvious in her makeup art. She specializes in what she calls “bold, painterly, and realistic” makeup, but her symmetrical tattoos and buzzcut add even more authenticity and originality to her look.
