Sam Sidney is Crafting Felt Art Inspired By Iconic Shoe Models

Felt art is a pretty underrated art form, but we stumbled upon a few talented artists on Instagram worth keeping an eye on. Sam Sidney is one of them and she’s best known for crafting felt art inspired by one of the most iconic shoe models in existence—Air Jordans.

Sam Sidney was born in New York, but she’s currently based in Charleston. After studying art in college and earning a Master in Art Education from NYU, she spent many years working as an illustrator, before discovering her love for felt art during quarantine.

“She promised herself she would do an art project with her kids each day. One day, she pulled out a small box of felt and made some collages. She made a self-portrait out of felt, posted it online, and the rest is history!” reads Sidney’s official website.

Sidney’s felt creations are cut entirely by hand, and we’ve seen her explore many different subjects, from food and pets to celebrities. If we had to pick the subject she’s best known for, her felt shoes would make the cut. She often uses felt to replicate designs of popular sneakers models, and the iconic Air Jordans seem to be her personal favorite.
