Maude White is Celebrating the Beauty of Nature Through Her Paper Cutout Art

Many paper artists are celebrating nature through their art, but no one is doing it in the way that Maude White does. Instead of relying on paper quilling or layering to craft her art, she’s creating incredibly delicate paper cutouts that manage to look simple and complex at the same time.

White hails from a family of visual storytellers and she’s been interested in art from a young age. She fell in love with paper early on because she felt it was everywhere around her and it’s been telling stories for centuries, in one form or another.

Instead of utilizing it as canvas, White decided to take her art in another direction – using her incredible attention to detail to cut tiny lines on paper with a craft knife, creating incredible, dreamy images along the way.

“With paper cutting there are so many opportunities to create negative space that tells its own story… The stark contrast between the black and white paper, and the cut nature of the work makes my art more three-dimensional than paint on canvas,” explains White on her official website.

She attracted over 60,000 followers to her Instagram page so far, and her art significantly evolved over the years. She mostly focuses on creating paper cutouts inspired by flowers, animals, and birds, and she even published a book called Brave Birds: Inspiration on the Wing.
