Megan Zaniewski is Making a Splash with Her Embroidery Inspired by Aquatic Animals

Embroidery artists who draw inspiration from the animal world aren’t difficult to find, but have you ever stumbled upon one that specializes in aquatic animals alone? That happens to be the case with Megan Zaniewski, whose works of art are inspired by ducks, otters, fishes, and everything else in between.

Zaniewski’s Instagram page @megembroiders is followed by over 70,000 people, and we’ve seen her explore many different subjects through her art. Most of her creations are inspired by nature and animals, and she’s particularly interested in water-based embroidery.

Zaniewski discovered her love for needlework at an early age and decided to revisit it later in life when she stumbled upon some embroidery supplies and put them to some good use.

“My exposure to hand embroidery began early, thanks to my mom and grandmother, who were both skilled at needlework… I enjoy the challenge of creating animated and detailed animal portraits with just the simple tools of a needle and thread, bringing them to life stitch by stitch,” she told Colossal.

Zaniewski has a special place in her heart for rivers, lakes, and oceans, and the curious creatures that inhabit them. She embroidered around 70 different species of aquatic animals, from ducks and turtles to jellyfish and crabs, and she’s showing no signs of stopping.
