Old Basketballs Become Chic Bags in Andrea Bergart’s Hands

If basketball is your favorite sport and you wish you could make this clear with your fashion choices, you actually can with a bit of help from the New York-based artist Andrea Bergart, who makes stylish handbags out of old basketballs.

Bergart has been into basketball long before she started this creative endeavor, especially after she became a member of the Downtown Girls Basketball team. She was full of confidence every time she walked to practice with a basketball in hand and wanted other people to experience that same powerful feeling.

She didn’t expect a big breakthrough when she cut a basketball in half for the first time, but this moment turned out to be the beginning of a whole new chapter of her life. She figured out how to blur the lines between fashion and athletics, and create unique basketball bags that pay homage to her favorite pastime.

Bergart didn’t stop at handbags and created a wide range of clutches, cross body bags and similar items made out of old basketballs. In addition to becoming a viral hit, her bags drew the attention of many influencers and WNBA players, who incorporated them into their stylish outfits.
