If you have a special place in your heart for flower paintings, Polly Hill will knock you off your feet with her dreamy art. She attracted almost 100,000 followers to her Instagram page with her floral watercolor art that looks straight out of a fairy tale.
The self-taught artist is based in Edinburgh, Scotland and she mostly draws inspiration from nature. She actually works at a lab and has no background in art. She fell in love with art five years ago and she enjoys challenging herself and seeing how much she can achieve.
At the beginning of her journey, she tried painting birds and fruits but didn’t like the result. Florals went on to become her favorite theme, but she also enjoys painting other whimsical motifs, such as galaxies and enchanted forests.
“I like to paint the kind of world I’d like to see so whatever I paint is ethereal, fantasy-esque. At least that’s the goal. I don’t hit that target every time but that’s my inspiration,” explains Hill on her Instagram.
One of the best things about her Instagram page is that she’s very open to helping other artists who are still at the beginning of their creative journey. She lists all of her materials in captions, from brushes and paints to paper and tape, sharing all her secrets with aspiring artists.
