See Lisa Ericson’s Surreal Paintings of Animals in Atypical Environment

In Lisa Ericosn’s paintings, we see animals like deer, turtles, and flamingos in environments not typical for them. Water turtles have succulents growing from their shells while deer carefully walks through tropical waters full of colorful fish.

Ericson creates her art on wood panels using acrylic colors and tiny brushes that she has to change often if she wants to preserve the precision and stunning level of details. Her paintings feature a dark background in order to be more dramatic and deeper. As she says, the animals she paints represent the natural world and the surreal part of the paintings is meant to represent the struggles we have as humans. “My ideas are often science-inspired, but with a surreal twist,” she writes on her website.
