The Meditative Artwork of Caro Arevalo

Caro Arevalo’s artistic practice is informed by nature as much as spirituality. Originally from Peru and currently based in Brooklyn NY, Arevalo leans on her heritage when creating, treating her work as a form of meditation in which the goal is to cultivate her connection with mother earth. According to Arevalo, her Amazonian heritage has also taught her the importance of rituals. And in a way, her practice, revolving around symmetry and repetition of forms, provides a sort of ritual in and of itself.

Her paintings, composed of infinite dots in a mandala shape, are both inciteful and spiritual, inviting the viewer to join her in her creative journey. “I’ve started to paint the evolution of different species and as I mostly work with the mandalic shape,” Arevalo shared with the DUFMOD blog. “I use the mandala’s different orbits to represent the evolution of organisms as the mandala keeps on growing, as an eternal evolving spiral.”

“For me the best way to keep on growing and making things happen is by focusing on what you have today,” says Arevalo, “using those tools in your advantage and make the best out of it. If you don’t have an art studio start on the floor next to your bed or the kitchen table.”

According to Arevalo, by observing nature one can notice that there is no real separateness and the whole universe is connected as a one. Take a look for yourself.
