Instagram is overflowing with makeup artists who are trying to make their mark, and Vanessa Davis is definitely succeeding. After making a name for herself with her skull-inspired designs, she now specializes in crafting some of the most theatrical makeup looks that you’ll ever come across.
Davis is a London-based makeup artist and hairdresser with a pretty impressive background. Before attracting 1.2 million followers to her Instagram page @the_wigs_and_makeup_manager and starting her own brand Skulltress Pro, she used to manage the wigs and makeup department at the English National Opera.
Davis initially rose to prominence thanks to her skull-inspired makeup looks. Her obsession with this niche in the world of makeup started when she attended a Halloween party with a half-skull makeup look and noticed how much attention it brought her way.
“I noticed that the successful makeup accounts specialized in either a particular style or subject, so I chose skulls, which also worked as my heritage is Mexican and English. I am fascinated by how skulls are portrayed in fashion, art, and tattoo art,” she told Allure.
Davis’ makeup skills are next-level, but her looks simply wouldn’t work without spectacular wigs. She even runs a course where she’s inviting people into the world of wig-making and teaching them how to tell amazing stories through hair and makeup design.
