Wild Goose Joins a Marathon, Shows Amazing Speed

Wild gooses can achieve some pretty impressive speed in the air, but it turns out they will give you a run for your money on the ground as well. A recent viral video from Facebook user Jack Dolan shows a wild goose joining the “Rock the Parkway” half marathon in Kansas City, Missouri, and showing remarkable running ability.

The goose can be seen keeping pace with other runners at first but then makes a charge to pass them and get the lead in the race.

Dolan later shared more details about the goose’s participation in the marathon with The Dodo. According to him, the bird simply landed on the track and started running. It even took a few breaks on the side to catch its breath before continuing.

Seeing that the goose isn’t backing down, Dolan decided to shift into a higher gear and leave its competitor in the dust. By the time he crossed the finishing line, the goose was nowhere to be found.

“He definitely was on pace to kick my ass,” Dolan told the media outlet.

Wild goose usually flies at the speed of 40 mph, although they can reach up to 70 mph if the weather conditions are right. Their running speed, on the other hand, is much slower, but they usually can match the humans in short bursts.
