A Video Shows the Actual Size of Asteroids

Thinking about how big things in space actually are can get scary, but we don’t really think about asteroids a lot. As the video below shows, they can get pretty big and pose a real threat on our planet if one ever hits us. As we learn on Wikipedia, “asteroids with a 1 km (0.62 mi) diameter strike Earth every 500,000 years on average. Large collisions – with 5 km (3 mi) objects – happen approximately once every twenty million years.” Even Stephen Hawking agreed with this, saying that asteroids are the biggest threat to Earth in his 2016 book Brief Answers to the Big Questions.
